Noise surveys and assessments

Benchmark Acoustics undertake noise surveys and noise impact assessments, often required by Local Planning Authorities for planning applications, BS4142 assessments, and construction noise monitoring.

Noise surveys are required to measure the existing background noise levels at a site, or to measure the noise emissions from sources such as external plant equipment or entertainment venues. The resulting noise level measurements along with noise modelling predictions are typically used to assess the impact of noise sources on an existing noise environment, or to assess the building envelope sound insulation performance required to achieve suitable internal noise levels within new buildings.

Building acoustics design

Benchmark Acoustics provide design guidance on key building acoustics design principles such as sound insulation requirements, acoustic absorption provision for control of reverberation, and attenuation measures for building and mechanical services noise.

Working with architects and the wider design team, we provide building and architectural acoustic design advice for achieving appropriate acoustic design standards in spaces such as open plan offices, meeting rooms, video conference rooms, educational facilities, restaurants and bars, and sports and leisure facilities.

Sound insulation testing

Benchmark Acoustics undertake airborne and impact sound insulation testing to assess the sound insulation performance of separating walls and floors.

Sound insulation tests are typically required to check that the in-situ sound insulation performance of separating walls and floors achieve the relevant post-completion performance standards for airborne and impact sound insulation, e.g. Building Regulations Approved Document E (ADE), BREEAM Hea 05, BB93, and HTM 08-01 requirements.

With over 20 years’ experience of performing sound insulation tests on residential and commercial developments we can readily identify the causes of, and advise on remedial solutions to, any shortfalls that may be found during testing.
